Big Change to Brand Phrase Search Results in Google Today
I’m currently going dizzy with the daily fluctuations in generic and long tail phrases, no doubt impacted by Google’s crack down on ‘over-optimisation’.
Today though I have a new treat to get my head round in that the top 10 results in Google.co.uk for one of our brand phrases (envirophone) has changed radically today compared with the 24th April. So not the usual jostling for position for the high rankers, 6 of the 10 sites formerly ranking have gone.
Observations:
- All the sites no longer in the top 10 are comparison sites
- These comparison sites now rank on page 3
- 4 of the current top 10 results are authoritative forum sites
The obvious benefit here is that Envirofone should now be able to grab a bigger slice of traffic for ‘Envirophone’. Of course the forum results are not necessarily flattering so some reputation management work will be required.
With the wildly changing results I’m seeing lately I will not be surprised if tomorrow brings a different picture. It would be good to know though if other SEOs have noticed similar changes across brand searches.
